Zane Sutra originally from Riga, is now a painter who has been living in Co. Wexford, Ireland for twenty years. Her latest work is monochrome figurative oil paintings inspired and informed by the work of Irish fashion designers, photographers and video artists. Her painted characters blur the boundaries between the human and divine. They are part memories part fictions. In Sutra’s world time doesn’t exist and everything is connected to everything. The controversy of contemporary art and representationalism in art is her current source of inspiration. Her paintings portray paradox between grace and ruthlessness, innocence and crime, genuine and fake - which are inherent in our postmodern pre-apocalyptic world.
